Exxaro powers the future at the 2020 mining indaba

Everything we do, everything we invest in, and everything we create, is a source of possibility.

That’s why Exxaro is proud to play a prominent role in this year’s Investing in African Mining Indaba. The international mining investment conference is a critical platform for us to engage with our stakeholders and promote our business strategy and offering. Attracting internationally diversified professionals in mining, the event provides valuable opportunities for Exxaro’s own leaders to engage with government officials, investors, industry peers, and the media.

Our presence at the Mining Indaba enables us to shape conversations on key industry issues and showcase how our projects are driving South Africa’s growth.

Here are some of the ways we are contributing to the conference:

2020 Exxaro stand

In alignment with the event’s official theme ‘Optimising Growth and Investment in the Digitised Mining Economy’, we have set up an interactive stand themed ‘Powering the Future’. Our future-focused exhibit draws attention to how Exxaro is shaping and changing the future of mining through digitalisation, while remaining committed to sustainability.

Our stand revolves around our three guiding pillars: optimising growth and development, sustainability and women in mining – and showcases how we power better lives in each of these areas.

Areas of focus include our Belfast Coal Mine, Youth Development Programme (YDx), the 5-Green-Star-Rated conneXXion building and our continued effort to attract more females into the mining industry.

Speaking engagements and panel discussions

Our Executive Head of Sustainability, Mongezi Veti, kicks the event off on Sunday 2 February with the 2020 Mining Indaba roundtable discussion on Water and Finance for Business Resilience in Mining.

On Monday 3 February, our CEO Mxolisi Mgojo takes to the main stage to give his keynote address, followed by a panel discussion on the Future of Mining with Exxaro’s Executive Head of Stakeholder, Mzila Mthenjane.

Tuesday 4 February sees Johan Meyer, Executive Head of Projects and Technology, and Nombasa Tsengwa, Executive Head of Coal Operations, participating in two panel discussions namely; Mining Innovation and Preparing for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, respectively.

Wednesday 5 February sees Veti, Mthenjane and Abel Sakhau, our Environment and Climate Change Manager, all sharing their expert insights in four more panel discussions. These will cover the topics; Using Technology to Drive Greater Health and Safety Systems in Mines, Collaboration as a Driver of Successful Digitisation and Innovation, Strategic Management of ESG Risks, and Climate Change. Mgojo will also host an exclusive Corporate Presentation.

And finally, on Thursday 6 February, our Executive Head of Human Resources, Vanisha Balgobind, will speak on the importance of nurturing the next generation of mining industry leaders during the Young Leaders in Mining panel discussion.

From how we think about our business to how we execute our strategy, Exxaro is equipped to promote growth, equality, opportunity, development and sustainability. We hope that our Mining Indaba participation helps propel the industry forward, eventually unearthing smarter, more efficient and sustainable ways of mining for our future generations.
